Grants for Business Education

The West of the River Chamber of Commerce is taking its mission of helping local businesses to the next level with the launch of its Business Grants Program.

 

This program is aimed at improving the education opportunities for the area workforce through the provision of two (2) $500 grants to be used toward an employee educational programs or Business Advertising.

 

Created by WRC Educational Committee, this program is aimed at easing the financial burden involved with furthering the education of employees and is based on the concept that an educated workforce equals a stronger economy.

 

These grants are open to all members of the West of the River Chamber of Commerce. The winners will be selected randomly at our Annual Meeting.

 

 

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION/APPLICATION

The West of the River Chamber of Commerce presents scholarships which are awarded to students endeavoring to obtain a two-or-four-year college degree or a specialized vocational profession.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • The applicant must be a resident of the Town of Agawam or West Springfield.
  • The applicant must be scheduled to attend an accredited learning institution.
  • The primary purpose of the education is to provide a livelihood for the individual, principally in a specialized vocational profession.

 

DEADLINES

 

The scholarship will be for an amount of $1,000 which will be paid to the recipient upon verification by December 31, 2017, of payment to the institution in an amount at least equal to the amount of the scholarship.  Applications must be received no later than April 15, 2017.

Transcripts of grades, scholastic standing/honors must be included along with at least two letters of recommendation from teachers and/or counselors/employers.

 

Determination of the award is based on the applicant’s specific skills related to the individual’s planned field of endeavor and commitment to that field.

 

Emphasis will be placed on recommendations/references provided by teachers, instructors, employers (past and present), etc.

 

School grades in courses not related to the vocation also will be taken into consideration (where applicable) as well as extra-curricular and community activities. 

The decision of the Committee is final.
